About Me

I help individuals and couples explore, understand, and remedy problems with relationships, at work, and within oneself. My work is best categorized as Relational Psychodynamic, which integrates deep insights from the history of psychology with the recent discoveries of neuropsychology and attachment research. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Massachusetts (License #10682).

I have provided a wide range of services during my career, including individual, couples, and group therapy, career, personality, and neuropsychological assessment, and supervision and consultation to doctoral trainees. I have also taught as an adjunct professor at the university level. I have worked in seven different universities and am an expert in university mental health.

In addition to my private practice, I work as a staff psychologist at Boston University.

Fees & Insurance

Please contact me for the most up-to-date fees. When cancelling or rescheduling, give 48-hours notice to avoid paying the fee.

Please note that I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide the necessary paperwork for you to be reimbursed by your insurance provider. Many patients receive some form of reimbursement. Please call your insurance provider to determine your out-of-network coverage. Psychotherapy may also qualify as an appropriate expense for Health Savings Plans or Flexible Spending Accounts through your employer.

Unfortunately, I do not have room in my current practice for reduced fee services at this time.

What can therapy do for me?
Therapy can do many things, depending on our focus. Therapy is a collaborative process in which you and I will work towards a better life. For some, this may involve concrete problem solving and behavioral adjustments. For others, this may involve explorative work into early relationships and experiences, examining patterns in current relationships, and asking questions of purpose and meaning. In our first session we will talk about what brings you to therapy and form an initial plan.

Is what I say confidential?
Absolutely. I am legally and ethically required to maintain the confidentiality of what we discuss, with a few exceptions. These include serious intent to harm yourself or others, instances of suspected child, elder, or disabled adult abuse, or (rarely) with a court-ordered subpoena.

Is there anyone you don’t see?
Due to practical limitations, there are patients for whom my services are not a great fit. If you want 24/7 access to a therapist, are exiting the hospital for self-harm, experience active psychoses, or are legally required to attend therapy, my services will not be appropriate. For the sake of your treatment, please call if you have questions and let’s have an honest conversation regarding your needs.

What should I expect during our first session?
This is a common question! Therapy is a strange situation–walk into an unfamiliar office, fill out some forms, and discuss topics you may not discuss with anyone else in the world. Our first session will be spent forming a working relationship with each other, discussing what brings you into my office, discussing the treatment options, and forming an initial plan.

What if I don’t feel like it’s a good fit?
An important task of the first session is to see if we would work well together. There are many reasons why we may or may not be a great fit. I understand if you would prefer to work with another clinician–I do not take such a decision personally. I often suggest to anyone seeking therapy (not only my own patients) that they try out each clinician for several sessions. We are all notoriously bad at predicting our own preferences. Committing to attending several sessions often reveals important information that changes our opinion. However, let’s discuss your reservations as early as possible. If after discussing these issues you would like to continue with someone else, I would be happy to provide referrals or help you find your own. Due to the nature of the work, I do not provide refunds for time spent in session, but I am happy to provide referrals based on our working relationship without charge.
